About the Author

Over the last 20 years, Michaela Sirbu has helped thousands of her clients in Canada, USA, Mexico, and Europe transform their bodies and enhance their joy of living – in person, on Skype, and through her large selection of videos. She has instructed Mat and Equipment Certification Courses to people of varied backgrounds, who fell in love with the magic of Pilates. She practiced and studied this ingenious mind-body method of exercise at the original school that Joseph H. Pilates himself had founded. Upon completion of her course, she received her certificate from Romana Kryzanowska – Joseph Pilates’ pupil of 26 years. She did close to a thousand hours of rigorous training, which involved taking personal and group sessions with the New York Pilates Studio instructors, theoretical study of the method, and teaching practice under Romana’s watchful eye and a team of talented instructors under her tutelage.

She opened the first Pilates studio in London, Ontario, where she coached people of all ages and from all walks of life – from children and adults in pain to Olympic athletes. She also has a Sivananda Yoga Certification to her name.

More information about her is available at www.MichaelaSirbu.com.

Career Prospects for Pilates Instructors

There is no specific type of education/training required to become a fitness trainer and instructor, and it varies by the type of specialty you pursue. However, employers often prefer to hire certified trainers/instructors and it is beneficial to get one from a recognized education provider. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of fitness trainers and instructors is projected to grow 8 percent from 2014 to 2024, about as fast as the average for all occupations. As businesses, government, and insurance organizations continue to recognize the benefits of health and fitness programs for their employees, incentives to join gyms or other types of health clubs are expected to increase the need for fitness trainers and instructors.

Apart from an excellent employment outlook, the picture is bright and encouraging for Pilates instructors on the salary front too. Certified Pilates trainers can earn up to $70,180 annually and on an average $17.39 per hour.
